Letter to the President

Mr. President,

My name is Jim Hansen, and I run a small family farm in rural Iowa. I just read your announcement that the U.S. will distribute aid to farmers until the tariffs “kick in to their benefit.” 

 I felt I should write and say thank you — because for folks like me, this news gives real hope.

Farming is a gamble every season — weather, pests, markets — it never stops. The past few years have been especially hard: crop prices down, costs up, and trade uncertainties making everything harder. Your promise that some of the tariff money will go to us brings a sense of relief. 

I’m truly happy to see the government is stepping in to help stabilize things while we wait for the tariffs to really start benefiting us. To hear that you believe farmers will “ultimately … be making a fortune” may sound bold, but it gives many of us something to believe in again. 

Please keep your word on this. Keep the support coming, deliver on the aid, and don’t let us down when the time comes to make the tariffs really work for us. If you do, you’ll win more than just our votes — you’ll win our trust.
